They used to ask Benno Engel (Luckenbach Owner until 1970) why he didn’t hire somebody to help him with the bar, suggesting that some people might be waiting on them selves and then forgetting to pay. He said, “Well, maybe some of them are, but you know it’s cheaper than hiring somebody.”

Take MOPAC or Loop 1 South to 290 West towards Dripping Springs for approximately 36 miles until you reach US Hwy 281. Go right on 281 North for 6 miles to Johnson City. Go left back onto Hwy 290 West towards Fredericksburg for approximately 30 miles. Go left at RR1376 (KOA Kampgrounds & Shell Gas Station) before you get to Fredericksburg. Go 4.6 miles and take a right on Luckenbach Town Loop just before the South Grape Creek Bridge.

HELPFUL NOTES: Off of RR 1376 do not turn right on the “Luckenbach-Cain City” Road – keep going. You will pass the large Feed Mill (Behrends Feed/”Uptown” Luckenbach) on your left. The next two rights after you pass Grapetown Road will be Luckenbach Town Loop. If you cross the South Grape Creek bridge you’ve just passed Luckenbach.
