They used to ask Benno Engel (Luckenbach Owner until 1970) why he didn’t hire somebody to help him with the bar, suggesting that some people might be waiting on them selves and then forgetting to pay. He said, “Well, maybe some of them are, but you know it’s cheaper than hiring somebody.”
The McKay Brothers, 5th generation Texans, grew up in the hills of Bandera County. Music became an inescapable part of their early lives. Hollin recalls we used to sit on the banks of the Nueces river with our uncle playing songs from the Beatles to George Jones. His feelings about music shaped much of what we write about.
