Luckenbach Hosts Mike Blakely’s Sixth Annual “Fandango” September 12-14
For the sixth year in a row, Luckenbach Texas, Inc. has teamed up with corporate sponsor, Wick Fowler’s Two-Alarm Chili, to produce Mike Blakely’s TexAmericana Fandango. The three-day event will occur September 12-14 at Luckenbach. Novelist and singer/songwriter, Mike Blakely, began hosting the festival featuring Texas songwriters and Texas authors in 2003.
“Our headliner this year is the great country songwriter, Guy Clark,” Blakely said. Originally from Monahans, Texas, Clark now calls Nashville, TN, his home, where he enjoys a successful career as a tunesmith. His hit songs have been recorded by Johnny Cash, Brad Paisley, Jimmy Buffet, The Highwaymen, Steve Wariner, and Jerry Jeff Walker, to name just a few. Clark will take the stage on Saturday, September 13.
Other artists performing during the three-day schedule will include Micky and the Motorcars, Tish Hinojosa, Walt Wilkins and the Mystiqueros, The McKay Brothers, Steven Fromholz, Thomas Michael Riley, Tommy Alverson, Mark David Manders, Tina Wilkins, Debbi Walton, and Mike Blakely Y Los Yahoos.
The focus will shift to Texas authors during a Sunday afternoon book signing on September 14, 1:00-4:00. Featured authors will include western novelist Elmer Kelton and Texas Ranger-turned-author, Joaquin Jackson. The event host, Mike Blakely, will debut his latest book, a western novel co-written with Willie Nelson. Other authors will include Bobby Bridger, Jan Grape, Russ Hall, W.C. Jameson, Laurie Wagner Buyer, and Bill Chambers.
Tickets for the six-annual, weekend-long event are available through Luckenbach Texas at www.luckenbachtexas.com, or by calling 830-997-3224. Advance tickets are $30 for the entire weekend, or $35 at the gate.
This year, Mike Blakely’s Fandango will also include a Sunday-afternoon ice cream “churn-off” with categories for electric and hand-cranked, vanilla and open recipes. Interested contestants should contact Leonard Moore at 210-215-5808.
